[Vacation :: Day 3]*

I'm going cray-cray.

Since I started posting about our trip to St. George a few weeks ago (only got through day 2), we have gone on two more beach trips and are headed out on another one this weekend...

Yikes.

Also, one of our memory cards is MIA.  Thank the LORD that it did not have any client photos on it, but a big chunk of our trip photos are temporarily (hopefully) misplaced.

Double-yikes.

Let's recap: The Gilberts are our friend Lindsay's parents, brother, sister-in-law and nieces and nephews.  How do you describe the Gilberts? Like Ryan and Lindsay, they also are just great people. Salt of the earth people who make us feel like we are part of their family too.  We've spent weekends with the whole crew in Alabama, in the North Ga mountains (where I learned to water ski--finally!), at their home in Rome, GA and now in Florida.

They exude Southern hospitality effortlessly.  They love to laugh.  Let me clarify, they love to laugh at one another.  And they give each other plenty of material (especially the guys).  Best of all, they genuinely love one another. In fact, after spending so much time with them, I'm convinced there is no where they would rather be than in one another's company.  Which is such a cool thing to see.

All that to say, we always have a total blast when they invite us along.  They have been so good to us and we are thankful that our friendships with Ryan and Lindsay have branched out to include their whole family.  They are a blessing to us.  And experiences like the one we shared with them on St. George Island do more for our spirits than they will ever know!

[ About us ]*

Honestly, I'm not sure if I ever mentioned that we started a photography business last year. . .but just in case I haven't, we did.

There, I said it.  Now you know.

Anyways, a friend hired us to shoot a b-day party in April and then BOOM! (<--That was business.  Get it? Business boomed.)

So yeah, boom! and we were not at all prepared.  We were still working our full-time jobs and pouring in (on average) about 40-60 addition hours a week into photo shoots, editing, scheduling, etc.

Our heads were spinning and we never had time to even build a website. (Oops!)

Thankfully we have had some time to catch up and we started working on one.

Today I tackled the About Us section, figuratively.

[ PAUSE: Now would be a good time to mention the fact that David and I are trying to make the word figuratively as popular as literally has become in recent years.  Grammar lesson: You did not literally lose your mind.  You did not literally scream your head off.  You figuratively did these things.  So, America, join with us in using the word figuratively where it belongs and stop the overuse, abuse and incorrect use of literally.  Thank you. ]

Now I will figuratively step down from my soapbox and admit that I'm pretty sure that our About Us is totally LAME and we will never be hired AGAIN, but here is what I wrote:

I'm Steph. I don't carry a wallet.
Just my passport with a credit card stashed in.
This is perfect for impulsive international travel.
(Or exile, should that happen.)

The handsome fella with me is Dave.
He has a phenomenal beard that causes envy across the lands.
He wears it because without it he looks like the kid from Sixth Sense.
(He does not see dead people.)

We were comfy in the friend-zone for many years before God opened our eyes to one another.
That eye-opening moment actually happened while we were standing on a speed bump
. . . in David's dorm room
. . .which he placed there to "help slow down the ladies".

(Head nod)

From that moment on, it was love.
(He liked it and did put a ring on it.)

We're still best buddies.
We work + play together 24/7.
And we think we make a pretty awesome team.

[ Risk ]*

David and I are total opposites in lots of ways.

Have I mentioned that once before?

(Or a million-gazillion times?)

A few months ago, we took photos of these cuties:

And they told me that the word "google" means "a really, really big number".

If that is true, then I've said that Dave and I are opposites at least a google times.

Today was a perfect example of that oppositeness.

We met with a Financial Advisor today about our massive gobs of money and how we could invest those gobs into Swiss bank accounts in hopes of one day buying our own island off of the coast of Dubai...

. . . rolling over our retirement accounts.

First things first, Alan (the financial guru) asked our level of comfort with risk.

Me first.

I pulled out my paperwork.  Let's see.  I get a .1% annual return on my IRA.

Let me break that down for you.  Let's say I have $100 in my account.  Last year I could have made. . . are you ready for this number to blow your mind?. . .10 cents.

TEEEENNNNN CENTS!!!!

I'm blushing with embarrassment realizing that I'd be just as good with it piled under our mattress.  But, unfortunately there is no room under our mattress because David stores our machetes there.  (This, sadly, is also true.)

Needless to say, historically I have been a low-risk investor. (Understatement of the last google years).

David's turn.

Alan looks to him, "How about you?" (Translation: Your wife is hopeless, please tell me that you know what you are doing.)

"I don't really have any money left in my IRA."

Dave pauses (for dramatic effect no doubt) and then continues,

"Have you heard of Mohler International?  They build flying cars. Yeah, I put my money there."

My risk level: Ten cents a year.
David's risk level: Cars. . .that. . . fly.

Opposites.

Our Life Through Photos :: 01.16.2010

One of my dearest friends, Angela, hosted an adorable birthday dinner last night. To be exact, she hosted an "I'm Almost a Spinster" dinner party. Her inspiration? Bridget Jones meets Julie and Julia. (Yeah fellas, she's adorable AND witty AND can cook like no other. If interested, please contact me and David for approval first.) The party was so stinking cute. Here are just a few of the picts from a delightful evening of celebrating the hostess herself:
